FERC approves streamlined grid connection rules for New England generators amid 80% surge in requests
The order approves revised interconnection procedures, timelines, cost allocation methods, and financial security requirements for generators connecting to the New England grid, aiming to streamline the process while addressing a backlog of interconnection requests.

Details:
FERC partially accepted ISO New England’s proposal, in compliance with the agency’s directive, to overhaul the market’s generator interconnection procedures, according to an April 4 order. Amid an 80% increase in interconnection requests over the past eight years, primarily from renewable resources, the order addresses reforms proposed by ISO-NE, including a shift to a “first-ready, first-served” cluster study approach, cost allocation for network upgrades, study deposits, and stricter commercial readiness requirements.
